Buffer overflow in the Microsoft Message Queue Manager (MSQM) allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (RPC service crash) via a queue registration request.
The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was released 01/05/2004 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2003-0995 since 12/15/2003. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1418 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $100k and more. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 68522 (Microsoft Windows DCOM RPCSS Service Vulnerabilities (MS03-039)).
