OpenBB up to 1.0.6 cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in OpenBB up to 1.0.6. This affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Open Bulletin Board (OpenBB) 1.0.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) redirect parameter to member.php, (2) to parameter to myhome.php (3) TID parameter to post.php, or (4) redirect parameter to index.php.

The weakness was shared 04/25/2004 by aLMaSTeR HaCKeR with Gulftech (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.info. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-1965 since 05/04/2005. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12066 (OpenBB Multiple Input Validation Vulnerabilities).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (15966), Exploit-DB (43811), SecurityFocus (BID 10214†), Secunia (SA11481†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1009935†). The entries VDB-21790, VDB-21791, VDB-21793 and VDB-22979 are related to this item. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
