of the file mainfunctions.php. The manipulation of the argument cat
with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Path). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
NukeJokes 1.7 and 2 Beta allows remote attackers to obtain the full path of the server via (1) a direct call to mainfunctions.php, (2) an invalid jokeid parameter in a JokeView function or (3) an invalid cat parameter in a CatView function, which reveals the path in a PHP error message.
The weakness was disclosed 05/08/2004 by Janek Vind with waraxe (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2009 since 05/04/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
