with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in e107 0.615 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) LAN_407 parameter to clock_menu.php, (2) "email article to a friend" field, (3) "submit news" field, or (4) avmsg parameter to usersettings.php.
The bug was discovered 05/29/2004. The weakness was shared 05/29/2004 by Janek Vind "waraxe" (Website). The advisory is shared at waraxe.us. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2040 since 05/04/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:clock_menu.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
