A vulnerability was found in SquirrelMail (Mail Client Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the file compose.php. The manipulation of the argument mailbox
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in SquirrelMail 1.4.2 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary script as other users and possibly steal authentication information via multiple attack vectors, including the mailbox parameter in compose.php.
The weakness was released 08/18/2004 by Alex as Bug 1733 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.fedora.us. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2004-0519 since 06/02/2004. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
