Affected by this issue is the function restore_rrddata of the file config.xml of the component XML File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. A command injection vulnerability in the function restore_rrddata() of Netgate pfSense v2.7.0 allows authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary commands via manipulating the contents of an XML file supplied to the component config.xml.

The weakness was disclosed 03/18/2023 as 13935. The advisory is shared for download at redmine.pfsense.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-27253 since 02/27/2023. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
