The character converters in the Spamhunter and Language ID modules for Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam 6.0.1 before patch 132 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via messages with the ISO-8859-10 character set, which is not recognized by the converters.

The weakness was shared 12/17/2004 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-1768 since 03/10/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
