Products.CMFCore are the key framework services for the Zope Content Management Framework (CMF). The use of Python's marshal module to handle unchecked input in a public method on `PortalFolder` objects can lead to an unauthenticated denial of service and crash situation. The code in question is exposed by all portal software built on top of `Products.CMFCore`, such as Plone. All deployments are vulnerable. The code has been fixed in `Products.CMFCore` version 3.2.
The weakness was disclosed 07/04/2023 as GHSA-4hpj-8rhv-9x87. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-36814 since 06/27/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
Upgrading to version 3.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 40f03f43a60f28ca9485c8ef429efef729be54e5 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
