A vulnerability has been found in OmniSharp csharp-language-server-protocol up to 0.19.6 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function CreateSerializerSettings of the file src/JsonRpc/Serialization/SerializerBase.cs of the component JSON Serializer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. As an impact it is known to affect availability.

Upgrading to version 0.19.7 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com. Applying the patch 7fd2219f194a9ef2a8901bb131c5fa12272305ce is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 3 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Set max depth for JSON serializer to mitigate known DOS vulnerability (#902)
The other option is to update Newtonsoft.Json, which now also sets the maximum depth by default, but this mitigates without having to update.
