Buffer overflow in the DHCP Client service for Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP1 and SP2, and Server 2003 up to SP1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted DHCP response.
The bug was discovered 12/26/2005. The weakness was released 07/11/2006 by Mariano Nuñez Di Croce with Cybsec as MS06-036 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-2372 since 05/15/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
