A vulnerability was found in Netgear FVS318 2.4 (Router Operating System). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Log Viewer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the log viewer in NETGEAR FVS318 running firmware 2.4, and possibly other versions, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a blocked URL phrase.

The bug was discovered 01/14/2005. The weakness was presented 01/17/2005 by Paul Kurczaba (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.grok.org.uk. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-0291 since 02/10/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

After even before and not, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
