Digital Communications Technologies Syrus4 IoT Telematics Gateway 23.43.2 MQTT Server improper authentication

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Digital Communications Technologies Syrus4 IoT Telematics Gateway 23.43.2. It has been classified as very critical. Affected is some unknown functionality of the component MQTT Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The Syrus4 IoT gateway utilizes an unsecured MQTT server to download and execute arbitrary commands, allowing a remote unauthenticated attacker to execute code on any Syrus4 device connected to the cloud service. The MQTT server also leaks the location, video and diagnostic data from each connected device. An attacker who knows the IP address of the server is able to connect and perform the following operations: * Get location data of the vehicle the device is connected to * Send CAN bus messages via the ECU module ( ) * Immobilize the vehicle via the safe-immobilizer module ( ) * Get live video through the connected video camera * Send audio messages to the driver ( )

The weakness was published 11/22/2023. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-6248 since 11/21/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 12/15/2023).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
