A vulnerability was found in Argosoft Mail Server 1.8.7.6 (Mail Server Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component Webmail Interface. The manipulation of the argument src with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Argosoft Mail Server Pro 1.8.7.6 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the src parameter in an IMG tag, (2) User settings, or (3) Address book input boxes in the webmail interface.

The bug was discovered 01/24/2005. The weakness was disclosed 05/02/2005 by ShineShadow (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.info. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-1282 since 04/26/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
