A vulnerability has been found in Claroline 1.5.3/1.6 Beta/1.6 Rc1 (Learning Management Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file document.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in (1) document.php or (2) insertMyDoc.php in Claroline 1.5.3 through 1.6 Release Candidate 1, and possibly Dokeos, allow remote project administrators to upload arbitrary files.

The bug was discovered 04/18/2005. The weakness was released 05/03/2005 by Sieg Fried with Zone-H (Website). The advisory is available at marc.info. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1376 since 05/02/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
