The weakness was presented 05/04/2005 by Ejovi Nuwere (ryan) (Website). The advisory is shared at ethereal.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-1461 since 05/05/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.

Upgrading to version 0.10.11 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 3639.
