Stack-based buffer overflow in the IMAP server for Ipswitch IMail 8.12 and 8.13, and other versions before IMail Server 8.2 Hotfix 2, allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (crash) via a SELECT command with a large argument.
The bug was discovered 05/24/2005. The weakness was shared 05/25/2005 by Sebastian Apelt with iDEFENSE Labs (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ipswitch.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-1254 since 04/25/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
