The sql_escape_string function in auth/sql.c for the mailutils SQL authentication module does not properly quote the "\" (backslash) character, which is used as an escape character and makes the module vulnerable to SQL injection attacks.
The bug was discovered 06/06/2005. The weakness was published 06/02/2005 with Gentoo (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.debian.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1824 since 06/02/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
