VCNative for Adobe Version Cue 1.0 and 1.0.1, as used in Creative Suite 1.0 and 1.3, and when running on Mac OS X with Version Cue Workspace, creates temporary log files with predictable names, which allows local users to modify arbitrary files via a symlink attack.

The weakness was released 08/11/2005 by vade79 (Website). The advisory is shared at adobe.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-1842 since 06/03/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
