The bug was discovered 10/31/2005. The weakness was disclosed 10/31/2005 by Ilja van Sprundel (iDefense) with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-3392 since 11/01/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 20195 (GLSA-200511-08 : PHP: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks and running in the context local. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115334 (Apple Mac OS X Security Update 2006-001 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2006-03-01)).

Upgrading to version 4.4.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityFocus (BID 16907), X-Force (22924), Secunia (SA17371), Vulnerability Center (SBV-9926) and Tenable (20195). The entries 1846, 1844, 1850 and 1845 are pretty similar.
