A vulnerability was found in Scriptdevelopers.net NetClassifieds 1.0.1/1.5.1/1.9.6.3 and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file viewcat.php of the component ITEM. The manipulation of the argument ItemNum with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in NetClassifieds Premium Edition 1.0.1, Professional Edition 1.5.1, Standard Edition 1.9.6.3, and Free Edition 1.0.1 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the (1) CatID parameter in (a) ViewCat.php and (b) gallery.php, and the (2) ItemNum parameter in (c) ViewItem.php.

The weakness was disclosed 12/01/2005 by r0t (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-3978 since 12/03/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by laurent gaffié and been published 2 years after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:viewcat.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Exploit-DB (4092). The entries 83282 and 83283 are pretty similar.
