Format string vulnerability in the host chooser window (gdmchooser) in GNOME Foundation Display Manager (gdm) allows local users to execute arbitrary code via format string specifiers in a hostname, which are used in an error dialog.

The bug was discovered 12/14/2006. The weakness was presented 12/15/2006 with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at labs.idefense.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-6105 since 11/24/2006. The attack needs to approached within the local network. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
