A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 1.5 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function xuldocument.persist. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is integrity. The XULDocument.persist function in Mozilla, Firefox before 1.5.0.1, and SeaMonkey before 1.0 does not validate the attribute name, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary Javascript by injecting RDF data into the user s localstore.rdf file.

The bug was discovered 02/01/2006. The weakness was published 02/02/2006 by Johnny Stenback (moz_bug_r_a4) with Martijn Wargers (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-0296 since 01/18/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
