A vulnerability was found in ClamAV 0.90.1 (Anti-Malware Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function cab_unstore in the library libclamav. The chm_decompress_stream function in libclamav/chmunpack.c in Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV) before 0.90.2 leaks file descriptors, which has unknown impact and attack vectors involving a crafted CHM file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2007-0897. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

The weakness was shared 04/13/2007 with iDefense (Website). The advisory is available at labs.idefense.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-1745 since 03/29/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25109 (GLSA-200704-21 : ClamAV: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165080 (OpenSUSE Security Update for ClamAV (SUSE-SA:2007:026)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at clamav.net. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
