A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.3 (Web Browser). Affected by this issue is an unknown code block. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Mozilla Firefox before 1.5.0.4 allows user-assisted remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML by tricking a user into (1) performing a "View Image" on a broken image in which the SRC attribute contains a Javascript URL, or (2) selecting "Show only this frame" on a frame whose SRC attribute contains a Javascript URL.

The bug was discovered 06/01/2006. The weakness was disclosed 06/02/2006 by Mikolaj J. Habryn (moz_bug_r_a4) with Cybozu Labs (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-2785 since 06/02/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 22163 (CentOS 4 : seamonkey (CESA-2006:0609)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 117662 (CentOS Security Update for Firefox (CESA-2006:0610)).

Upgrading to version 1.5.0.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 4656.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (26845) and Tenable (22163). The entries 2174, 2283, 2285 and 2282 are pretty similar.
