Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 SP4 and 6 SP1 and earlier allows remote attackers to conduct spoofing and phishing attacks by using a modal browser window in a way that preserves the original address bar and trusted UI of a trusted site, even after the browser has been navigated to a malicious site, aka the "Address Bar Spoofing Vulnerability."

The weakness was shared 06/13/2006 by Yorick Koster and hoshikuzu star_dust with ITsec Security Services as MS06-021 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securitytracker.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-2384 since 05/15/2006. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21685 (MS06-021: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (916281)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
