A vulnerability was found in NewsPHP 2006 Pro. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file index.php of the component Error Page. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in index.php in NewsPHP 2006 PRO allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) words, (2) id, (3) cat_id, and (4) tim parameters, which are not sanitized before being returned in an error page. NOTE: it is possible that some of these vectors are resultant from an SQL injection issue.
The weakness was shared 06/29/2006 by Ellipsis Security (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-3358 since 07/06/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
After before and not just, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 2006 Pro eliminates this vulnerability.
