The Remote Data Service Object (RDS.DataControl) in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 2000 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a series of operations that result in an invalid length calculation when using SysAllocStringLen, then triggers a buffer over-read.

The issue has been introduced in 08/27/2001. The weakness was presented 07/07/2006 (Website). The advisory is available at browserfun.blogspot.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-3510. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
