A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 7 (Web Browser). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality in the library Xlisten.dll/Xvoice.dll of the component Table Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple buffer overflows in the (1) ActiveListen (Xlisten.dll) and (2) ActiveVoice (Xvoice.dll) speech controls, as used by Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 6, and 7, allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted ActiveX object that triggers memory corruption, as demonstrated via the ModeName parameter to the FindEngine function in ACTIVEVOICEPROJECTLib.DirectSS.
The weakness was shared 06/12/2007 by Sam Thomas with ZDI as MS07-033 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-2222 since 04/24/2007. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
It is possible to download the exploit at immunitysec.com. It is declared as functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
