The Download Validation in LaunchServices for Apple Mac OS X 10.4.7 can identify certain HTML as "safe", which could allow attackers to execute Javascript code in local context when the "Open safe files after downloading" option is enabled in Safari.

The bug was discovered 08/01/2006. The weakness was published 07/14/2006 by Jesse Ruderman (iDefense) with Mozilla Corporation (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-3504 since 07/10/2006. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
