Mozilla Thunderbird before 1.5.0.7 and SeaMonkey before 1.0.5, with "Load Images" enabled, allows remote user-assisted attackers to bypass settings that disable JavaScript via a remote XBL file in a message that is loaded when the user views, forwards, or replies to the original message.

This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-4570 since 09/06/2006. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. Upgrading to version 1.5.0.7 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 9090.
