A vulnerability was found in Toxi Foafgen 0.3. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file redir.php. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in redir.php in Foafgen 0.3 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the foaf parameter.

The weakness was disclosed 10/17/2006 by DarkFig (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-5319 since 10/17/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by DarkFig and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 7 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:redir.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
