Oracle Database Server 10.1.0.5 bump_sequence sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Oracle Database Server 10.1.0.5 (Database Software). This issue affects the function bump_sequence. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Oracle Database 10.1.0.5 and 10.2.0.2 have unknown impact and remote authenticated attack vectors related to (1) Vuln# DB04 and sys.dbms_cdc_impdp in the (a) Change Data Capture (CDC) component; (2) Vuln# DB07, (3) DB08, and (4) DB16 in sys.dbms_cdc_isubscribe in CDC; and (5) mdsys.sdo_geor_int in the (b) Oracle Spatial component, aka DB12. NOTE: as of 20061023, Oracle has not disputed reports from reliable third parties that these issues are related to SQL injection in the BUMP_SEQUENCE function (DB04), CREATE_SUBSCRIPTION (DB07), EXTEND_WINDOW_LIST (DB08), SUBSCRIBE (DB16), and COMPRESSDATA (DB12).

The weakness was shared 10/17/2006 by Alexander Kornbrust with Application Security, Inc. (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-5335 since 10/17/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56054 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (October 2006 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19211 (Oracle October 2006 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (56054). The entries 2615, 2614, 33021 and 32832 are related to this item.
