Unspecified vulnerability in the Core RDBMS component in Oracle Database 10.1.0.5 and 10.2.0.0 has unknown impact and remote authenticated attack vectors related to sys.dbms_sqltune, aka Vuln# DB10. NOTE: as of 20061023, Oracle has not disputed reports from reliable third parties that DB10 is for SQL injection in DROP_SQLSET, DELETE_SQLSET, SELECT_SQLSET, and I_SET_TUNING_PARAMETER. NOTE: some of these vectors might be in DBMS_SQLTUNE_INTERNAL.

The weakness was disclosed 10/17/2006 by Alexander Kornbrust with Application Security, Inc. (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-5338 since 10/17/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56054 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (October 2006 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (56054). The entries 2615, 2614, 33021 and 32832 are pretty similar.
