PunBB up to 1.2.13 Installation search.php array sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in PunBB (Forum Software). This affects an unknown code block of the file search.php of the component Installation. The manipulation of the argument array with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

SQL injection vulnerability in search.php in PunBB before 1.2.14, when the PHP installation is vulnerable to CVE-2006-3017, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the result_list array parameter, which is not initialized.

The bug was discovered 10/10/2006. The weakness was shared 10/15/2006 by nms (Website). The advisory is shared at securitytracker.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-5736 since 11/06/2006. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 5 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:search.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 22932 (PunBB include/common.php language Parameter Local File Inclusion), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r.
