A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in TorrentFlux 2.2 (Peer-to-Peer Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument alias_file with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in index.php for TorrentFlux 2.2 allows remote attackers to create or overwrite arbitrary files via sequences in the alias_file parameter.

The weakness was shared 12/06/2006 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at secunia.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-6328 since 12/06/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.

A public exploit has been developed by r0ut3r and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 21 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
