Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.1 permits the IUSR_Machine account to execute non-EXE files such as .COM files, which allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands via arguments to any .COM file that executes those arguments, as demonstrated using win.com when it is in a web directory with certain permissions.

The issue has been introduced in 10/25/2001. The weakness was released 12/15/2006 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-6578 since 12/15/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
