Adobe Acrobat Reader Plugin up to 7.x cross-site request forgery

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Adobe Acrobat Reader Plugin up to 7.x (Document Reader Software). This affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Adobe Acrobat Reader Plugin before 8.0.0 for the Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera web browsers allows remote attackers to force the browser to make unauthorized requests to other web sites via a URL in the (1) FDF, (2) xml, and (3) xfdf AJAX request parameters, following the # (hash) character, aka "Universal CSRF and session riding."

The weakness was disclosed 01/03/2007 by Stefano Di Paola (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at wisec.it. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-0044. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 23975 (Adobe PDF Plug-In < 8.0 / 7.0.9 / 6.0.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB07-01)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165000 (SUSE Security Update for acroread (SUSE-SA:2007:011)).

Upgrading to version 8.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (40789) and Tenable (23975). The entries 2793, 3594, 4037 and 4041 are pretty similar.
