A vulnerability was found in VideoLAN VLC Media Player up to 0.8.6d (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. Heap-based buffer overflow in modules/access/rtsp/real_sdpplin.c in the Xine library, as used in VideoLAN VLC Media Player 0.8.6d and earlier, allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or execute arbitrary code via long Session Description Protocol (SDP) data.
The weakness was shared 01/10/2008 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is shared for download at aluigi.altervista.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0295 since 01/16/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 03/16/2021).
