A vulnerability has been found in Mailenable Professional up to 2.37 (Mail Server Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component IMAP Service. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Stack-based buffer overflow in the IMAP service in MailEnable Enterprise and Professional Editions 2.37 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via a long argument to the APPEND command. NOTE: this is probably different than CVE-2006-6423.
The weakness was shared 03/06/2007 with mu-b (Website). The advisory is shared for download at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-1301 since 03/06/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in Perl. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
