Details
A vulnerability was found in PHP up to 4.4.4 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function (shmop). The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The shmop functions in PHP before 4.4.5, and before 5.2.1 in the 5.x series, do not verify that their arguments correspond to a shmop resource, which allows context-dependent attackers to read and write arbitrary memory locations via arguments associated with an inappropriate resource, as demonstrated by a GD Image resource.
The bug was discovered 03/08/2007. The weakness was presented 03/08/2007 by Stefan Esser (Website). The advisory is shared for download at php-security.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-1376 since 03/09/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at php-security.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25100 (Debian DSA-1283-1 : php5 - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12259 (PHP Prior to 5.2.1/4.4.5 Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 4.4.5 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (33038), Exploit-DB (3426), Tenable (25100), SecurityFocus (BID 22862†) and OSVDB (32781†).
