The Impulse Tracker (IT) and ScreamTracker 3 (S3M) modules in IN_MOD.DLL in AOL Nullsoft Winamp 5.33 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted (1) .IT or (2) .S3M file containing integer values that are used as memory offsets, which triggers memory corruption.

The weakness was disclosed 04/06/2007 by Piotr Bania (Website). The advisory is available at piotrbania.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-1922 since 04/10/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/14/2021).

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25770 (Winamp < 5.34 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5278.
