Oracle 9i Application Server sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Oracle 9i Application Server (Application Server Software) (affected version not known). It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in the Portal DB (1) List of Values (LOVs), (2) Forms, (3) Hierarchy, and (4) XML components packages in Oracle Oracle9i Application Server 9.0.2.00 through 3.0.9.8.5 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the URL.

The bug was discovered 11/03/2003. The weakness was released 11/04/2003 by David Litchfield with Generation Security Software Ltd. as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2003-1193 since 05/04/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11918 (Oracle PORTAL_DEMO.ORG_CHART SQL Injection), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19214 (Oracle 9i Application Server Portal SQL Injection Vulnerability).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at metalink.oracle.com. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 2276.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (13593) and Tenable (11918). Further details are available at otn.oracle.com.
