Unspecified vulnerability in the mdsauth.dll COM object in Microsoft Windows Media Server in the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 SP4 on Windows 2000 SP4; 6 SP1 on Windows 2000 SP4; 6 and 7 on Windows XP SP2, or Windows Server 2003 SP1 or SP2; or 7 on Windows Vista allows remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary files via unspecified vectors, aka the "Arbitrary File Rewrite Vulnerability."

The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was shared 05/08/2007 by cocoruder with Fortinet Security Research as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-2221 since 04/24/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.

The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2738 days.
