CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in GNU C Library 2.5 (Software Library) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function process_envvars of the file elf/rtld.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-189. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

** DISPUTED ** Integer overflow in the process_envvars function in elf/rtld.c in glibc before 2.5-rc4 might allow local users to execute arbitrary code via a large LD_HWCAP_MASK environment variable value. NOTE: the glibc maintainers state that they do not believe that this issue is exploitable for code execution.

The issue has been introduced in 09/29/2006. The weakness was shared 07/01/2007 by Tavis Ormandy with Gentoo Linux (Website). The advisory is shared for download at gentoo.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-3508 since 07/02/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 276 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25665 (GLSA-200707-04 : GNU C Library: Integer overflow), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks.

Upgrading to version 2.5 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (35240), Tenable (25665), SecurityFocus (BID 24758†), OSVDB (37901†) and Secunia (SA25864†). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
