** DISPUTED ** Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and 7.0 allows remote attackers to fill Zones with arbitrary domains using certain metacharacters such as wildcards via JavaScript, which results in a denial of service (website suppression and resource consumption), aka "Internet Explorer Zone Domain Specification Dos and Page Suppressing". NOTE: this issue has been disputed by a third party, who states that the zone settings cannot be manipulated.
The issue has been introduced in 08/27/2001. The weakness was disclosed 07/03/2007 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-3550 since 07/03/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2136 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment.
