The G/PGP (GPG) Plugin 2.0, and 2.1dev before 20060912, for Squirrelmail allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the messageSignedText parameter to the gpg_check_sign_pgp_mime function in gpg_hook_functions.php. NOTE: a parameter value can be set in the contents of an e-mail message.

The weakness was shared 07/08/2007 with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at labs.idefense.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-3778 since 07/15/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
