The dl function in PHP 5.2.4 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a long string in the library parameter. NOTE: there are limited usage scenarios under which this would be a vulnerability.
The bug was discovered 09/09/2007. The weakness was released 09/13/2007 by Rasmus Lerdorf with SecurityReason (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-4887 since 09/13/2007. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
