Oracle Database Server 9.0.1.5 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Oracle Database Server 9.0.1.5 (Database Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Oracle Database 9.0.1.5+ and 10.1.0.5 unknown impact and remote attack vectors, related to (1) Import (DB01) and (2) Advanced Queuing (DB25). NOTE: as of 20071108, Oracle has not disputed reliable researcher claims that DB25 is for a buffer overflow in the DBLINK_INFO procedure in the DBMS_AQADM_SYS package.

The weakness was presented 10/17/2007 by Esteban Martinez Fayo with Application Security (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-5504 since 10/17/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56058 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (October 2007 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (38155) and Tenable (56058). See 39618, 39349, 39342 and 39323 for similar entries.
