A vulnerability was found in MIT Kerberos 5-1.5 (Network Authentication Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function krb5_def_store_mkey
in the library lib/kdb/kdb_default.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Double free vulnerability in the krb5_def_store_mkey function in lib/kdb/kdb_default.c in MIT Kerberos 5 (krb5) 1.5 has unknown impact and remote authenticated attack vectors. NOTE: the free operations occur in code that stores the krb5kdc master key, and so the attacker must have privileges to store this key.
The weakness was published 12/08/2007 with Gentoo (Website). The advisory is available at issues.rpath.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-5972 since 11/14/2007.
