inc_newuser.asp in Hosting Controller 6.1 Hot fix 3.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to change the permissions of directories named (1) db, (2) www, (3) Special, and (4) log at arbitrary locations under the web root via a modified Dirroot parameter in an AddUser action to accounts/AccountActions.asp. NOTE: this can be leveraged for remote code execution by changing the permissions of \Forum\db, which is configured for execution of ASP scripts with administrative privileges, and then uploading a script to \Forum\db.

The weakness was disclosed 12/13/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-6495 since 12/20/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. A authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by BugReport.IR and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:inc_newuser.asp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
